On not seeking endorsements from current Saanich Council members.

In the past few weeks, since joining the by-election race for a seat on Saanich Council, several people have asked me which members of the current council have endorsed me. The answer is that I am intentionally not soliciting endorsements from sitting Councillors because I think it’s critical to have a constructive working relationship with ALL members of Council.

I have a few reasons for pursuing this path. First, I enjoy working collaboratively on issues, and successful collaborations require people to put differences aside as we work toward common objectives. Choosing favourites before the work has even begun is not a good way to start off on the right foot. Second, I wish for my only accountabilities to be to the citizens of Saanich. The decisions I take will aways reflect independent and critical thinking; my guiding principle will be to serve the best interests of Saanich’s communities.

I’m happy to report that I have a positive rapport with all members of Saanich Council. Each of them brings something unique to the table, and I have a lot of respect for their individual commitments to public service.

I would be grateful to have a chance to work with each and every one of them.
